LAS VEGAS MAN GETS MAXIMUM SENTENCE FOR DUI WRONGFUL DEATH
A Las Vegas man was sentenced to 8 to 12 years for the Halloween death of and 12-year-old Las Vegas trick-or-treater one year ago. Three hours after the accident, the driver tested at .068 (.08 is the legal limit in Nevada. The driver also had traces of marijuana and oxycontin in his blood at the time of the accident. The accident occurred at Sandstone Bluffs Drive and Wesley Lakes Place in Summerlin. At the accident scene, the driver had slurred speech, glassy eyes and dilated pupils. He failed several sobriety tests at the scene.
Each year, there are more than 16,000 alcohol-related fatalities. Alcohol is a factor in almost half of all traffic accidents. Every other minute, a person is injured in an alcohol-related crash.
